Area Overview — Understanding Phu Quoc's Layout
Phu Quoc runs roughly north-south, about 50km long. The western coast faces the Gulf of Thailand with calm waters and famous sunset views. The eastern coast is wilder with national park. Most tourists and all our villas are concentrated on the western coast.
The main villa zones from north to south along the west coast: Ong Lang → Duong Dong (town) → Long Beach → then the southern areas of Bai Sao and An Thoi. The airport is on the eastern side, roughly central — equally accessible to all western coast areas in 15-30 minutes.
All western coast villa areas face west — which means spectacular sunsets every evening year-round during dry season. Long Beach, Ong Lang, and Duong Dong all share this sunset-view advantage. Bai Sao and An Thoi on the south coast face slightly differently but still offer beautiful evening light.
Long Beach (Bai Truong) — Best Overall Choice
Long Beach — locally known as Bai Truong — is Phu Quoc's main tourist strip and the location of more than half the island's villa rental properties. Stretching nearly 20km along the southwest coast, it combines a solid beach with excellent restaurant access, sunset bars, and proximity to Duong Dong town for shopping and the famous night market.
Why Choose Long Beach
Selection: Long Beach has the widest choice of villas at every price point — from romantic 2-bedroom properties to large group villas sleeping 15. If you're booking for the first time or want maximum choice, this is where to look. Our Family Villa and Luxury Pool Villa are both located here.
Dining and nightlife: Long Beach has Phu Quoc's best restaurant scene — dozens of excellent seafood restaurants, beach bars, Vietnamese street food, international cuisine, and sunset cocktail spots. You're never more than a few minutes' walk from a great meal.
Infrastructure: Closest area to Duong Dong town (1-3km), giving easy access to supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs, and the famous Dinh Cau Night Market — one of Southeast Asia's best seafood markets.
Long Beach Drawbacks
The beach itself, while pleasant, is not Phu Quoc's most beautiful — it's sandy and swimmable but busier than other areas. Some sections have construction noise during daylight hours as the area continues to develop. Premium villa prices reflect this area's popularity.
✓ Long Beach Suits
- First-time visitors to Phu Quoc
- Families with young children
- Groups who love nightlife
- Those who value dining variety
- Guests who want town access
✗ Consider Elsewhere If
- You want absolute tranquillity
- You're on a tight budget
- You want an isolated, natural setting
- Construction noise bothers you
- You prioritise beach beauty over beach access
Ong Lang — Most Romantic and Natural
Ong Lang is our personal favourite area to host guests — and the most consistently rated area by those who stay here. Located about 10km north of Long Beach, it occupies a natural cove framed by tropical jungle, with a small, beautiful beach and a genuine sense of seclusion that Long Beach can't match.
Why Choose Ong Lang
Atmosphere: Ong Lang feels like the Phu Quoc of 10 years ago — natural, unhurried, and genuinely beautiful. The beach is rocky in parts but pristine, with shallow warm water, almost no jet skis, and a fraction of Long Beach's crowds. At sunset, you'll often have the beach almost to yourself.
Villa quality: Some of Phu Quoc's most beautiful boutique villas are in Ong Lang — thoughtfully designed properties with more garden, more privacy, and a closer connection to the natural surroundings. Our Honeymoon Villa is in this area.
Price: Ong Lang villas are typically 10-15% cheaper than equivalent Long Beach properties — lower demand means better value for an often superior experience. For couples especially, this area offers the best price-to-experience ratio on the island.
Ong Lang Drawbacks
Dining options are limited — you'll find a handful of good restaurants but nothing like Long Beach's variety. Most guests are happy to cook in their villa kitchen (which you have!) or take a 15-minute motorbike ride into Duong Dong for the night market. If eating out nightly is important, Long Beach is better.
If we had to choose one area to stay personally, it would be Ong Lang. The combination of natural beauty, seclusion, better value, and the kind of "real island" atmosphere that's disappearing from Long Beach makes it the best overall villa experience. We recommend it to any couple or group that's comfortable using a motorbike or scooter for evening dining trips.
Duong Dong Town — Best for Convenience
Duong Dong is Phu Quoc's main town and the island's commercial hub. It's where you'll find the Dinh Cau Night Market (Phu Quoc's most famous attraction for seafood lovers), the fish sauce factory, Dinh Cau temple by the river, and the best everyday shopping. Staying in or near Duong Dong means maximum convenience at the cost of a more urban environment.
Why Choose Duong Dong
For travellers who plan to eat out every night, want easy access to markets and pharmacies, and don't prioritise a beach-at-the-doorstep experience, the Duong Dong area makes excellent practical sense. The beach is 1-2km from town — close enough by motorbike but not a leisurely walk.
Villa selection in the immediate Duong Dong area is more limited than Long Beach, but properties here tend to be slightly more affordable. The night market is within walking distance — and for seafood lovers, this alone can justify the choice of location.
Duong Dong Drawbacks
It's a town — which means traffic, noise, and urban atmosphere rather than island tranquillity. Not the right choice if you came to Phu Quoc to escape the city. The beach nearest to town (at the river mouth) is not ideal for swimming. Most villa guests we host near Duong Dong use it as a convenient base for exploring rather than a destination in itself.
Bai Sao — Most Stunning Beach Experience
Bai Sao consistently ranks as Phu Quoc's most beautiful beach — and it's easy to see why. The fine white sand, shallow turquoise water, and backdrop of jungle hills create a postcard-perfect setting that genuinely lives up to the photos. Located on the south coast, it's a different experience to the western coast beaches.
Why Choose Bai Sao
If absolute beach beauty is your priority and you're willing to trade convenience for it, Bai Sao is incomparable. The water is crystal clear, warm (28-30°C year-round), and shallow enough to wade 100m from shore. The sand is soft and white — nothing like the coarser sand of Long Beach. For beach photographers, it's unmissable.
Villa options in the Bai Sao area are growing as development expands, and some properties offer near-direct beach access. Our Beachfront Villa is in this coastal zone. Prices command a 15-25% premium over equivalent Long Beach villas — but for the right traveller, it's absolutely worth it.
Bai Sao Drawbacks
Bai Sao is isolated. Dining is limited to a handful of beach shacks and one or two restaurants — excellent fresh seafood but no variety. Duong Dong town is 25-30 minutes away by motorbike. The island-hopping and snorkelling tours depart from An Thoi harbour, just 10 minutes away. For travellers who want a quiet beach holiday with minimal movement, this isolation is a feature rather than a bug.
An Thoi — Best for Island Hopping & Diving
An Thoi is a small town at Phu Quoc's southern tip and the departure point for all island-hopping boat tours and diving trips to the An Thoi archipelago. This collection of 15 small islands has some of Vietnam's best coral reefs and snorkelling spots — with visibility reaching 15-20m in dry season.
Why Choose An Thoi
If your main reason for visiting Phu Quoc is diving, snorkelling, or island-hopping, staying near An Thoi means you can join morning boat tours without the 30-40 minute transfer from Long Beach that everyone else has to do. The archipelago is genuinely spectacular — untouched coral, colourful fish, and often entirely deserted small beaches.
Villa options are limited in An Thoi itself, but several excellent properties exist in the area between An Thoi and Bai Sao. The Cable Car station — the world's longest sea cable car — is also nearby, connecting the southern mainland to the Hon Thom island amusement park.
An Thoi Drawbacks
For most tourists, An Thoi is a day-trip destination rather than a base. The town itself is functional rather than charming. Villa selection is the most limited of all areas. If you're not specifically here for diving or island-hopping, Long Beach or Ong Lang will serve you better as a base for day trips south.

How to Choose Your Area — Decision Guide
Use these simple rules to narrow down your ideal area based on what matters most to you:
- First time in Phu Quoc? → Long Beach. Maximum choice, can't go wrong.
- Romantic trip / honeymoon? → Ong Lang. Quieter, more beautiful, better value.
- Families with young children? → Long Beach. Calm water, restaurants close, infrastructure.
- Budget priority? → Ong Lang or Duong Dong-adjacent. 10-15% below Long Beach.
- Beach photography / beach perfection? → Bai Sao. Nothing compares.
- Diving / island-hopping is main activity? → An Thoi area. Skip the morning transfer.
- Night market and restaurant variety? → Duong Dong or Long Beach.
- Want to explore by motorbike? → Any area works — the island is small enough.
We strongly recommend renting a motorbike or scooter ($8-12/day) regardless of which area you choose. This gives you complete freedom to explore all beaches, reach the night market easily, and visit the national park. Without a motorbike, guests in Ong Lang or Bai Sao can feel isolated. With one — everywhere is accessible.

Frequently Asked Questions — Phu Quoc Areas
Long Beach is the best area for families. It has the widest selection of family villas, easy access to restaurants and shops, calm waters suitable for children, and proximity to Vinpearl Land theme park. The area is well-developed with excellent infrastructure.
Ong Lang is the most romantic area for couples. It's quieter and more secluded than Long Beach, with a natural cove, fewer tourists, and a boutique villa atmosphere. Sunsets from Ong Lang are spectacular as it also faces west. Villas here are 10-15% cheaper too.
Long Beach is the most popular and best overall for first-time visitors. It offers the widest villa selection, most restaurants, sunset views, and proximity to Duong Dong town for shopping and night markets. Not the most beautiful beach, but the best all-rounder.
Long Beach is approximately 8-12km from Phu Quoc International Airport — about 15-20 minutes by taxi or private transfer. Duong Dong town centre is 1-3km from most Long Beach villa properties.
Ong Lang is a quiet, natural cove on the northwest coast — ideal for couples and nature lovers. It has fewer tourists, more boutique villas, and a relaxed atmosphere. The beach is beautiful and largely uncrowded. Dining options are limited, so a motorbike for evening trips to Duong Dong is recommended.
Bai Sao is arguably Phu Quoc's most beautiful beach — white sand, crystal clear water, and very few crowds. However, it's more isolated on the south coast with fewer dining options nearby. Great for beach purists willing to travel 25-30 min for restaurant variety.
The north is less developed with national park jungle and remote beaches. The south (An Thoi, Bai Sao) has the most beautiful beaches and easy access to the An Thoi archipelago. Most tourists stay in the central-west area (Long Beach, Ong Lang) which balances beach access with convenience.
Ong Lang typically offers the best value — comparable villas to Long Beach at 10-15% lower prices with a quieter setting. Duong Dong town-adjacent properties also offer good value for travellers who don't need beachfront proximity.
Motorbike is the most popular way to explore — rentals cost $8-12/day. Taxis and Grab are available but can be expensive for multiple trips. An Thoi in the south requires 30-40 minutes by road from Long Beach. We can arrange motorbike rentals for all villa guests.
Duong Dong has a Vinmart supermarket, local markets, and grocery stores. Long Beach has convenience stores within easy reach. Ong Lang and Bai Sao require a 15-20 minute ride to Duong Dong for full grocery shopping — most guests enjoy the local market experience.
An Thoi in the south offers the easiest access to the An Thoi archipelago — Phu Quoc's best snorkelling zone with 15-20m visibility. Guests from Long Beach and Ong Lang can also join boat tours but need to transfer to An Thoi harbour (30-40 minutes).
In most areas, yes. Long Beach villas are 3-8 minutes walk. Ong Lang villas are 5-10 minutes. Bai Sao villas are often within 2 minutes. Always ask for the specific walking time when booking — we always give you the honest distance.
All western coast areas (Long Beach, Ong Lang, Duong Dong) face west and offer spectacular sunsets. Many guests prefer Ong Lang sunsets for the natural setting. Long Beach has dedicated sunset bars. From your villa pool anywhere on the west coast, sunset views are typically excellent.
